Herringbone Flooring in Carshalton: A Whitewash Open-Plan Case Study

Customer: Claire VaughanLocation: CarshaltonArea: Open Plan Living DiningProduct: Herringbone Alpine (Whitewash) Amount: 55m²Duration: 4 days

Herringbone flooring in Carshalton can transform a brand-new open-plan space, especially when the layout runs across the whole ground floor and needs to feel cohesive from room to room. In this case study, we show how Claire fitted our whitewash Herringbone Alpine flooring across her new kitchen, dining and lounge space, getting the bright Scandinavian-style finish she wanted in 4 days.

The Problem

Claire Vaughan from Carshalton had recently knocked through her kitchen and back lounge to create a massive open-plan living and dining space. The room had plenty of natural light, but she wanted to avoid a traditional dark wood that might make the new space feel heavy. She wanted something modern, bright and seamless across the entire ground floor.

The Solution

For Claire’s open-plan space in Carshalton, the answer was a light-toned herringbone floor with real Scandinavian character. She opted for the Herringbone Alpine flooring from our range. The beautiful whitewash finish complemented her new bifold doors perfectly, keeping the massive room feeling airy and Scandinavian in style. The herringbone pattern also ensured that the huge expanse of flooring still had plenty of texture and detail.

The Installation

Because Claire’s open-plan space in Carshalton spanned two original rooms, the fitters spent the first day ensuring the subfloor was completely level across the old wall line. The herringbone blocks were then floated on a DPM underlay throughout.

The Result

The open-plan area at Claire’s Carshalton home is now incredibly bright and modern. Running the whitewashed herringbone continuously through the living and dining zones has successfully tied the entire ground floor conversion together.

Customer Testimonial

“Knocking the walls down was only half the job; the flooring is what really brought it to life. The whitewash colour keeps everything so bright, and the herringbone pattern looks fantastic across such a big space.”
